Wedding…well…

Posted in Blog on December 21st, 2006 by Mervyn

One of my cousins got married yesterday. Man.. time really flies. Me, Beng and Puay Teck used to play train at my grandma’s place and well.. before we knew it, PT is married!

20122006294.jpg

As you can see, among the 3 of us, I’m the shortest, fattest, youngest, uglie.. well you get the picture.. haha.. but yeah, some of my most fun moments in my childhood were spent with these two. And yes I still adress them as “Ah Beng Kor Kor” and “Puay Teck Kor Kor” which is kinda weird for me cos on my mom’s side of the family, I’m the eldest and am more used to people calling me Kor Kor instead. (To whoever that’s reading this, I know what you are thinking. DON’T call me Kor Kor!)

Anyway here’s more pics of the cousins that I seldom hang out with. This MIGHT be the only pics you see me posting up on the cousins of this side of the family. For sure my bro and I are not as close to them as we are to the cousins on my mom’s side.

20122006292.jpg

Yes.. stop the big stomach jokes.. I should have buttoned the last one..

20122006293.jpg

20122006295.jpg

There’s the new inclusion, Dawn, my tang sao!

But man.. I’ve reached a point in life where attending family weddings means getting asked  “when’s your turn?” “what are you doing now?” blah blah blah.. small talk after small talk.. hai.. ok lah.. just don’t let it happen to often.. I’ll go crazy..

Anyway, I’m most probably gonna go SOT next year.. still praying about it, but most likely will go.. yeah. Sponsors pls contact me. Will be greatly appreciated…

Dialect Christmas Service

Posted in Blog on December 17th, 2006 by Mervyn

Today was the Dialect Christmas Service.. man.. God is really awesome.. it’s one of the largest crowds I’ve seen in the dialect service… The seats were packed all the way from the front to the back portion.. I couldn’t resist taking a pic..

16122006285.jpg

Man.. and the presence of God was really there.. the whole service from the Praise and Worship to the drama was really great. Can see that the old folks enjoyed themselves very much. And best was that many of them gave their hearts to Jesus.

Here are the big day musos for today’s service..

16122006284.jpg

I kinda like this pic cos I don’t look that fat.. hahaha

Anyway, after more two months of hard work… the dialect album is finally out!

16122006286.jpg

Listening to the cd as I’m writing this, I must say it’s a rather good effort. The mixing was very well done.. Thank God for His grace…

16122006287.jpg

These are the ppl involved in the album.. haha.. nice to see my face inside..

But seriously, really thank God for everything.. for how far He has brought me.. it’s really his grace…

O Holy Night…

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth…

Posted in Blog on December 14th, 2006 by Mervyn

well done.. I seem to be losing the will to blog when I don’t have pictures to post.. so much for “I don’t wanna touch a camera for two years after I ORD.” But then again.. technically I’m using my camera phone… so it’s not really a camera anyway. And I like to take what I like.. not what I have to.. Leisure photography really beats “work” photography anytime.

Christmas is once again here. Another year has passed. Well.. I shall do my thanksgiving blog at the end of the year. Christmas usually means busy busy busy… even more so this year. Playing for JAMs and Dialect Christmas Svc and plus the Christmas Dramas that we are gonna have. 5 services this year. Really believing for 40000 people this Christmas. Anyway, I will be in the middle of South China Sea this Christmas. Going for a cruise for the first time in my life with my family. Yes.. I’m from the Navy and been onboard all the ships we have but yet, never been on a cruise ship. So yeah.. which means Christmas Eve will be a mad rush for me. Go for svc in the morning and then rush to harbourfront to board my ship. But ok la.. first holiday with my family in like 2-3 years..

Need to get my wisdom tooth extracted! AH… Need a job too..

Ben “The San Por Kia” Zhang

Posted in Blog on December 12th, 2006 by Mervyn

Man.. yesterday was a long long day. Went for service in the morning. Pst Tan prayed for the CGLs aged 24 and under. I was like “Heng ah! Haven’t step down yet.” But seriously, the presence was really strong. The moment I reached the front, I could already feel the strong presence, so much so I was struggling to stand up even before Pst Tan started praying. Awesome man!

Then played for Dialect service, which was actually a prayer meeting. Not bad, but a bit tiring. Anyway, to tie in with the album launch next week, the church is blessing those in the Dialect church who have been coming for a long time with a brand new CD player. Jonathan (the zone supervisor who oversees the Dialect church) was sharing that their initial plan was to ask the church members to donate second hand CD players for the elderly. When they brought the plan up to Pst Kong, he said why bother getting second hand? Give them brand new ones. Wow! I really love his mindset. God is not a second hand God. God is a generous God.

After that had a whole night of practice for the praise and worship for the Christmas service that is coming this coming Saturday. Then went for supper with Mecrus and Ben Zhang.

Haha, think I went crazy and started singing songs about Ben Zhang

Here is one I came up with.

Ben Zhang The San Por Drummer (Sing to the tune of Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer)

Ben Zhang the san por drummer

Had a very skinny leg

And If you ever saw it

You’ll say look like chicken leg

All of the other drummers

Always call him “San Por Kia”

Ben Zhang the San Por Drummer

Always call them “Si Gin Nah”

Then one music practice day

Tan Boon came to say

Ben Zhang  you may be skinny

But you will play like Jimmy Lee

Ben Zhang the san por drummer

Girlfriend’s name is Serena

And if he ever reads this

He will call me Si Gin Nah

He will call me Si Gin Nah

He will call me Si…… Gin……. Nah…………

The Case Of The Torn Ten Dollar Note

Posted in Blog on December 8th, 2006 by Mervyn

Yesterday was a rather tiring day I have to say. Woke up at 1pm still feeling tired from all the travelling. But got a pleasant suprise when I got a call from Stephanie. Yeah.. She’s an ex cg member and good friend who has since migrated to Aussie-land (Aussie acecent included).

Yeah.. met up with her and we went for a drink at this place called Balcony at Heeren. Quite a nice place to hang out. She had a beer while I had a nice cup of camomile tea.

07122006252.jpg

Been great catching up with her.. though now I gotta strain my ears to try to catch what in the world she’s trying to say. Haha. Anyway we’ll meet again at Hazel’s (the dancer) wedding on Sunday! Hazel’s her cousin by the way.

Went for a wake at night and our dear Miss Jace Ang did a miracle. She tore a ten dollar note while trying to pay for her cab. Not like slightly torn or torn in the middle.. but…

07122006256.jpg

Well done. Strong and mighty fingers. Haha…

From KL to Singapore

Posted in Blog on December 7th, 2006 by Mervyn

Ok.. Back home at last.. couldn’t blog last night cos it’s kinda pointless to pay for another 24hrs of net usage when I will only be using for two to three hours at most.

Anyway, picking up where I left off in my last post, we went down to KLCC for shopping. From there, a few of us took a cab down to Sungei Wang, which is like Far East Plaza, followed by pasar malam in Petaling Street.

Erm yes.. more photos..

05122006208.jpg

Ok, here’s the deal. Some of the leaders went to get a temporary tatoo at Sunway. I would sure love to see them all wear sleeveless for svc this week and all sit in one row.. hahaha.. and here’s Mr. Donny Wong who is wearing a t-shirt that says “Supreme Being”. Just for that, I name this picture “Supreme Beng”. Mr. Donny “Supreme Beng” Wong.

05122006211.jpg

Kelvin Guo and I. Roomie No.1.

05122006212.jpg

I wanna name this “Two attitudes and a gong kia”. But then again…Kel was one of those who has the tatoo..

05122006213.jpg

Yes. We went to KLCC on a school bus!

05122006214.jpg

Roomie No.2. Hong Bing

05122006216.jpg

Pat(rick) Zhao and I on the bus. Yes, it’s a rather long ride. Fell asleep for awhile.

05122006217.jpg

KLCC in the day. Well, half of it.

While the rest of the leaders went to this local restaurant called Mdm. Kwan or something, which serves allegedly the best Nasi Lemak that Nick Chor ever tasted, I went to A&W with some of the ladies. Here’s Xuemin and Ruth. With MY waffle ice cream.

05122006220.jpg

And just so you and I can drool everytime we look at this pic… here’s a close up of MY waffle ice cream and my root beet float.

05122006222.jpg

05122006224.jpg

Went to Sungei Wang to shop a bit before the Petaling Street. Didn’t get much though. In any case, there wasn’t much for me to get. Bought two anime DVDs. (Death Note The Series and Street Fighter 2 - The Animated Movie)

Finally made our way back to KLCC after all the crowded shopping places. And just when we thought that we were going to go back to our hotel, Pst Zhuang brought us for supper. Super good la the food. Check out the huge prawns!

05122006228.jpg

Night view of the Petronas Twin Towers.

05122006231.jpg

06122006232.jpg

Yup. Huge prawns.

Went back to our hotel at about 12 plus to 1am or so. And after struggling to wake up, we had our breakfast before going down to Pst Kevin Loo’s church, CHC Malaysia. We were having our Bible Study with Pst Zhuang and I played guitar for the praise and worship (with Lynnette on the keyboard). Was so sleepy that my mind couldn’t process properly and kept playing wrongly.

06122006234.jpg 06122006235.jpg

Taken Inside the auditorium of CHC Malaysia.

06122006236.jpg

Anyway, this is my “half-sister” Bee Leng. That’s cos she’s exactly one year than me. We share the same birthday. Ahaha.

After checking-out, we had another 3 hours or so to spare. So based on the very fact that you won’t get to eat it again in Singapore, guess where we went to?

06122006237.jpg

Hai… still never realli understood why they closed down. Great food and all. Maybe it’s cos they try to act smart and introduce stupid stuff like Nasi Lemak and all. Cannot make it!

After lunch went to walk around Sunway Pyramid. Felt like a social butterfly today cos I kept changing groups that I walk with. Ended up walking with Lynnette and we went to explore the place more and found a K-box right there and then. Yes. A real K-box. Unlike what we have here, the K-box over in Sunway delivers what it says it is. It’s Karaoke and… yes… it’s a box.

06122006238.jpg

Yes. The REAL K-box!

Speaking of Lynnette.. she managed to convince me to do something that I’ve been hesitating for sometime….

06122006239.jpg

Look closer at my left ear. Yes.. I went to pierce my ear at last. I have to deal with the magnets one dropping at every other instance anymore. The pain is ok lah… but when the gun first shot thru, I was like “thanks ah.. not pain..”. But anyway i sorta “inspired” Wendy and Sabrina to pierce their ears too. Haha.

Found this at at stall somewhere there. It’s Tong Luo Shao. It’s what Doraemon, or Xiao Ding Dang if you like, love to eat. Bought for my subzone leaders. It’s filled with chocolate fillings. There were other flavours too but just bought the chocolate one only. And really not too bad.

06122006244.jpg

On the way back, our coach was times better than the first day’s. But somehow I was kept awake by this stupid disturbing movie. Think it’s called Family Heirloom. Whatever lah. It’s a crappy storyline, with a disturbing soundtrack and some disturbing scenes. But think it’s disturbing that such a stupid storyline made it to flim.

06122006242.jpg

So yeah. That’s the end of the retreat. I’m off to bed now.

Sunway Lagoon!

KL retreat part 1

Posted in Blog on December 5th, 2006 by Mervyn

Yup.. I’m freezing in my hotel room in KL now typing this. The stupid room temperature is at 18 deg when we set the temp to 28 lah.. crazy! Paid 38rm to use the internet connection in my room. Think this trip was a needed one for me. Need to kinda get away for awhile.

Anyway, this is gonna be yet another pics, pics and more pics entry.

04122006173.jpg

Took this pic with my subzone’s youth leaders on the bus. Speaking of which, when we first stepped on our bus, we smelt kerosene. Then halfway, we could see smoke and the smell was terrible la! Thank God after our stop for lunch, the bus company swapped a bus for us. And the funny thing is, our new bus was occupied when it arrived, but the ppl just swapped over to our bus. Man.. poor them. But God is good to us.

After what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived at Sunway, but we were so behind schedule that we skipped ice skating.. muahahaha! I was like saying that I pray that the ice melt so we don’t get to skate. And when we saw the rink, it was wet.. haha.

04122006174.jpg
And guess where we went to eat dinner? Hong Kong Cafe. Yes, my routine obession with Hong Kong Cafe arose again. But this was a different one, and apparently they just opened a branch in Vivo. The food is great, Mecrus should go there one day.

04122006175.jpg

04122006176.jpg

04122006177.jpg

04122006179.jpg
Ok, this was what I ate. Cheesy baked rice with Steak and white sauce. And my favourite watermelon juice.

04122006178.jpg
My portion of the table. With me are Eric and Careen, Jason and his gf.

After that we all went to watch Deja Vu at the cinema there. They bought a grand total of 58 tickets! And the ticketing lady was like what? 58?

Isn’t this the longest chain of tickets you’ve ever seen?

04122006180.jpg

And this is not the full length yet.

Went to walk around after that before the movie, took some pics of the place so yeah I shall end off with those pics.

04122006186.jpg

04122006187.jpg
For those who think I look like a bear, this one’s for you.

04122006188.jpg

We wanted to go play pool and we saw this smiling fish..

04122006189.jpg

And for your info, Miss Pat Zhao, this is REAL. Yeah, she said it was fake when she saw it on my phone.

Oh and took a pic with my “Ah Mah”, Cindy Koh.  She has the same dialect name as my late grandma.. so I’ve been calling her that since last week or so.

04122006190.jpg

Oh yes, just bought a cap today. Yes the one on my head. 10rm lah.. haha. Ok, that’s all for now. Will see if I can do part two tmr or not. Having fever right now. Not helping that my room is freezing cold. Oh and I’m now alone cos my whole room went out for food. But nah.. too tired. Maybe it’s the stupid bus. Hopefully we get better buses when we go back.
